Zona acotada como «Costa da Morte» y territorio del fin del mundo del continente europeo hacia el atlántico desde las primeras migraciones humanas.
Ayuntamientos de: Laxe, Zas, Vimianzo, Muxía, Finisterre, Corcubión, Cee, Dumbría y Camariñas, desde donde el actual Faro Vilán dirige a los aviones provenientes del atlántico, hacia el aeropuerto de Santiago de Compostela.
Historia:
Poblado por celtas, conquistado por fenicios, griegos y romanos en su caminar hacea el fin del mundo conocido. A la caída del imperio romano, sufre las invasionessueva y visigótica. Romanos y suevos hacen sus primeras divisiones territoriales.
En el siglo VIII, se funda el cenobio de Santa Mariña de Tosto (Camariñas), transformándose en monasterio en el siglo X. En el s.XII se les conceden las tierras que van desde Nande (Laxe), Carantoña (Vimianzo), Leis hacia el mar y el coto de Moraime (Muxía).
Estos monjes Benedictivos son los fundadores de Santa María de Ozón y los que pusieron en marcha el monasterio de Moraime (Muxía). En las tierras del este monasterio (Soesto), nace y se hace potente la Casa de Traba que conjuntamente con el Arzobispo Gelmirez potencian el culto al Apostol y cristinianización del Camino al fin del Mundo continental europeo.
La obra civil-cristiana más importante de la familia Traba, es el Monasterio de Moraime (Muxía), donde se crió Alfonso VII (s.XII) bajo el amparo de los Traba. Rey de Gaicia, León, Aragón, Cataluña y Navarra, coronado con apoyo del arzobispo de Gelmirez.
En tierras de Soesto (Laxe), propiedad de los Traba y perteneciente al Monasterio de Santa Mariña de Tosto (Camariñas), reside Alfonso IX (s.XIII), origen de los primeros Trastamara, cuyo apellido y título absorben los reyes de Aragón y Castilla.
Camariñas, conjuntamente con Xornes (Ponteceso) forman el Arciprestazgo de Camariñas, pertenecientes al Obispado de Mondoñedo hasta 1954.
El origen está en que fueron donados al obispo de Modoñedo durante la invasión árabe, quedando Camariñas y Buria separadas administrativamente de la Mitra Compostelana.
Encaixe de Camariñas:
En esta área geográfica y contexto histórico, nace el Encaixe de Camariñas, se le conoce en el siglo XIV por escritos de inventarios eclesiásticos como «Encaje de Flandes», producidos en esta zona. La leyenda sitúa su origen en el naufragio de una barco italano en ruta de Flandes a Italia, frente a las costas de Camariñas. Una dama italiana, náufraga de este accidente, enseña a los lugareños el arte del encaixe como agradecimiento a su salvamento.
El Encaixe de Camariñas tiene su primera vía comercial a través de los productos confeccionados para uso eclesiástico, la iglesia realiza la labor de mecenas de este arte, extendiéndose a la nobleza por medio de ajuares realizaos para el uso en actos: religiosos, bautizos, bodas y enterramientos.
Es el CAMINO AL FIN DEL MUNDO, posteriormente como «CAMINO DE SANTIAGO», la vía de comercialización hacia España y Europa. Iglesia y nobleza son los comercializadores.
El Encaixe de Camariñas no existiría sin el Camino de Santiago. El peregrino al fin del mundo no lo disfruta si no lo completa con el Faro Vilán y el Encaixe de Camariñas.
